GOAL SETTING

Why Safety is the most important goal to set every year

With the start of each New Year, do you take the opportunity to set goals for the coming 12 months?  Or, are you jaded about the process, recognising that hardly any goals survive the first few weeks, nevermind months, of the year?

Irrespective of whether you subscribe to the principle of goal setting or not, we're pretty certain that there's one thing that needs to be on your to-do list - or your goals list - but likely isn't.  Want to know what it is?

Think about the implications of you and your family members being a victim of violent crime, and consider the impact that this could have on your wellbeing this year, and perhaps even for each year - for the rest of your life.  Because we don't like to think about these terrible things, we live in state of denial that bad things won't happen to good people like us.

Unfortunately, this apathy creates opportunities for criminals to strike.

So, what absolutely must be on your to-do or goals list this year are the action steps that you can take to impact your personal safety and home security.  Our challenge and urge to you is in fact to make these actions your priority, given the state of crime in South Africa.

When you consider that South Africa has just under 20 000 murders each year and with 36 330 rapes, 20 870 home robberies and 16 731 hijackings reported each year (each of which are likely under-reported by anywhere between 300% - 700%) you'll recognise that enhancing personal safety and increasing home security is a worthy goal.

Unfortunately, many South Africans hand their personal safety over to the Police and their home security to their Armed Response service.  Both are reactive.  You need to have the opportunity to summon help, and then to be able to keep yourself safe until that help can arrive.  The better alternative is to take proactive measures to signficantly reduce your risk of finding yourself in this situation.

A lot of people we talk to feel helpless.  They reflect to us that they feel powerless to do anything about the tsumani of crime and the violence that accompanies it.  The good news is that you don't need to be a high-level operative to improve your personal safety and home security.

Becoming proficient at safety and security is a skill that you can learn, just like any other skill that you've acquired.  We are making every effort to assist you in this area.  We frequently have Ask Me Anything sessions, product reviews, expert interviews, and safety tips that we share on our social channels.  Join us and you'll learn a great deal about what simple measures you can employ to impact your safety and security.

Another option is to book a consultation with our personal safety expert, where we can provide you with personalised recommendations on your home security and personal safety.  If this is a better option for you, Contact Us for more information.

Our invitation - and challenge - to you is that you take action and implement goal setting for your personal safety and home security.  Take any and all action that is currently within your reach. And then, plan your next actions, and what needs to be done to achieve them, so that this year and each year, you make signficiant strides towards keeping yourself and your family safer.
